From humble beginnings to becoming industry-leading in the field of additive manufacturing, fi additive is the brainchild of award-winning Southland business, fi innovations.
Ahead of the game and putting the deep south on the map, the team are experts in all things manufacturing — from the idea to design, right through to superior end-use part production. The brand was launched earlier this year to shine a light on the capabilities of this unique side of the business, and separate it from the resin-based flooring and manufacturing arm that is fi innovations. With world-class technology, including owning the only PostPro3D by AMT in Australasia, fi additive is making huge strides within the aerospace, marine, transport and medical industries across New Zealand and beyond.
It all started 20 years ago, when founders Gareth and Melissa Dykes returned to Southland and took over the family business with one contract and one employee. Their focus was directed towards being one of the only companies of its kind within the industry in terms of the technology they were investing in for fibreglass, flooring and boat building services. Fast forward to now, their team is made up of 20-odd highly-skilled professionals that have taken on some major contracts in Southland and far beyond, right from their workshop in the heart of Invercargill city.
Built by generations, their purpose from day one has been to strive to be world-class through innovative thinking and manufacturing excellence. So far, they’ve managed to exceed their own expectations after becoming winners of not one, but three categories at the 2021 Southland Business Excellence Awards, including taking home the Supreme Winner Award— an overwhelming achievement that has left them even more motivated than before. Much of the recognition they have received is thanks to the introduction of their impressive additive manufacturing hub, which has allowed them to expand the business and keep their finger on the pulse of innovation.
