Navigating the Carbon Footprint Calculation: A Guide for Sustainable Business Practices

This presentation will provide participants with an understanding of measuring and managing carbon footprints in the face of climate change. This presentation is designed to demystify the process of carbon footprint calculation, by defining the carbon footprint concept, describing the components of a carbon footprint and primary sources of greenhouse gas emissions, and consider the activities that contribute most significantly to our carbon footprint, including energy use, transportation, and waste generation. We will introduce the main methodologies and tools for carbon footprint calculation, such as the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and IOS standards.

Data collection and analysis will be covered through identifying reliable data sources, and an explanation on how to convert activity data into GHG emissions. Transparency in reporting and the significance of third-party verification will be discussed, highlighting standards and frameworks that have integrity. The session will conclude by considering the integration of carbon footprint calculations into broader sustainability strategies and understandings of climate risk.
